Karaoke
posted by nathanSunday afternoon, we were sitting around the apartment, hanging out with Sara's sister and niece who are here for a few weeks, when all of a sudden, we heard some crazy loud strange noises.

Upon further investigation, we discovered that our neighbor had decided to have a party. And that party involved karaoke. With the apartment door open. At five thousand decibels.

Now when Chinese people do karaoke (which is quite often), they tend to turn it up really loud, and crank up the reverb, so you end up with a loud, reverberated, feed-back inducing mess. That's what this was. It was amazing.

And it wouldn't have been quite so bad (or entertaining) if this gentleman knew how to sing. But I can assure you, he didn't.

Seeing as how he was having a party with the door open, (and since we wanted to capture the source of our pain and record it for posterity), we decided to crash the party. With our video camera.

Well, unfortunately for you, (or maybe fortunately?), by the time we got there, the microphone was handed off to a friend, who had at least a vague sense of pitch, so you'll never really get to appreciate the full range and dynamic of sounds that we heard that afternoon.

But maybe you'll at least get a kick out of watching the short clip.
