Arkansas Tourists

I haven’t taken the time to sit down and write about our wonderful and relaxing trip to Arkansas, but I’ll post some more pictures. Here are the descriptions…(Picture 1) We acted more like tourists than we ever have before because this time the visit to my hometown was also our family vacation. We stopped at a tourist information center in Missouri for diaper changes and A&A ran and played. They did great during the 10-hour drive even though Audrey didn’t sleep a wink. They loved the new toys I brought out for the drive, especially the Magna Doodles I picked up at a yard sale this summer! (2) Oh the joy of built-in and willing baby sitters! My sister watched the babies and Nathan and I found something touristy to do. We drove through the countryside and stopped at War Eagle Mill for a little history, a nice view and some pecan cobbler. Every time we turned around our family was willing to take the babies for a walk so we could rest or go for a swim in the pool. It was great!

(3) The greatest part about the trip was seeing family and friends! Here’s a picture of my 2 siblings, our spouses, and all our kids. (4) I was scheduled to hang out with two of my great college friends and roommates, Shannon and Rhonda. I was surprised to learn that my spiritual mentor was in town the same time I was, so she joined us. What a huge blessing it was to see Laurie!  We also made arrangements to meet some old friends at the park. It was so great to see old friends from junior high through college. I love our lives in Illinois, but I sure did enjoy see the faces and places of Arkansas!

(5) Our vacation ended with a three-night getaway that I took with my mom and sister. Before we left Illinois I had never even left the babies overnight before! Nathan and my nieces took great care of them as we girls headed off to Branson, MO. We stayed at Big Cedar Lodge, a place where every wall of every room, condo, and cabin has some kind of stuffed animal on the wall. We spent most of our time floating on the Lazy River, but we also managed to fit in girl movies, hanging out, a massage, canoeing, fabulous dining, and a cheesy show. (6) He didn’t quite compare to Shoji, but we made our own fun when we went to the Mark Twain show. Here he is posing with mom. (He also portrays Hank Williams Jr, and in the evenings he does Elvis.) I’d say our 2 week vacation was a huge success!
