Downtime and Comcast
posted by nathan

I just want to apologize for the downtime we've had on the site.  I had moved to a new host, which was nice and quick, but then I found out that Comcast was blocking the host that we moved to.  So we moved again.  I'm still wanting to switch DNS registrars, which might mean another day of downtime sometime soon.

But I'll leave you with this fun discussion I had with Comcast's tech support online chat person (if you don't understand technical mumbo-jumbo, then skip to the end for the funny part)

Me  (after describing the problem in gory technical detail):  So I can ping the server from multiple machines that aren't on Comcast's network.  And I can't from multiple machines in different cities that are on Comcast's network.  So the problem is obviously something you guys are doing.

Comcast tech lady:  Well, you should try clearing your browser's cache, deleting your cookies, and restarting your computer.

Me:  No, that's ridiculous.  My browser has nothing to do with it.

Comcast lady:  Well, if you don't want to do it this way, then you can figure it out your own way.

Me:  Is it depressing working for a company that is so horrible?  You probably hate Comcast as much as we customers do, except you aren't allowed to admit it or else you'd get fired.

Comcast lady:  That could be true.
